Zappos x Hoka One

With my PCT start date about 3-months away my planning has started to shift from theoretical to tangible. I’m shifting from just thinking about options to actually choosing and ordering things! It is pretty surreal to say the least!

One of the most important choices I have to make is about footwear. Having the right shoes on a 2,650 mile hike can make or break the success of the thru hike. You would be shocked by how many stories I’ve read of people have to quit because of the damage done to their feet from the wrong shoes!

Apparently (according to all the previous hikers I’ve chatted with so far) there are some PCT “cult classics” as far as shoe choice. The Hoka One One Speedgoat 4 is one of those shoes! I recently ordered a pair on Zappos so that I could test out these bad boys for myself.

The Speedgoat 4 is considered a “balanced” shoe meaning it allows your foot to adopt its natural placement and is made is Vibram MegaGrip high traction outsoles for exceptional grip and traction over rough terrain. They are also made with a durable mesh which is really important for a hike like this because you need shoes that will dry fast after river crossings but also withstand the intense amount of wear and tear you put on them.

I am LOVING these shoes so far. Truth be told my feet are a little beat up from spending so much time in ski/snowboard boots and these shoes were comfortable right away. There isn’t anywhere I can test their grip on dirt right now but I found them SUPER grippy on the snowy roads we have here right now which is a great sign. While I haven’t decided for sure what shoes I will hike with this summer, I do know this- The Hoka One One Speedgoat 4’s I bought on Zappos are serious contenders! Do you have any other shoes you think I should test out?
